Haunted Morristown

Barton Springs

In 1791, the Reverend William Murphy began building this pioneer period home near a large beautiful spring. At that time, the area was in Hawkins County and directly in the middle of the Great Indian War Path. The home was expanded by Isaac Barton about 1820, at which time the structure became known as Barton’s Spring. Isaac died in 1851 and was buried in Bethesda Cemetery. Three unmarked graves are located on the property as well. Reports have been made of 3 small children seen wandering the house. Most of the sightings and activity has been focused upstairs in the children’s bedroom. Later in history, it was reported that many soldiers from both armies benefited from the cooling waters freely flowing from this great spring. This property has great historical and paranormal significance to Hamblen County, TN. This is a privately owned property.
