Haunted Morristown

Bethesda Presbyterian Church

4990 Bethesda Road Morristown 37814, This church became a casualty of war. When hostilities broke out, parishioners bitterly took sides forcing the church to close. The church served as a hospital when Confederate Gen. James Longstreet brought his 25,000 troops to the area in December 1863. A cannon ball caused damage during an engagement a few months earlier. Although members of the church tried to reopen it following the war, hard feelings remained and the church remained closed. Screams of presumably injured/dying soldiers are often heard echoing throughout the halls. This was a place of great pain and trauma for many men – the reported activity reflects this. Many report seeing 1 civil war soldier specifically – around 6’3″ in time period war attire and a long rifle in his hands. There is also a cemetary on-site with very high activity. This is a privately owned property.
